First, I would like to say THANK YOU to everyone the came down to SF BAY and fished with us this year aboard the Lucky Strike!! What a fun time we had this summer!! Looks like we will be heading back down to SF Bay around the end of April of 2009!! WOW…lots of halibut, lots of stripers, lots of leopard sharks….and LOTS OF FUN!! THANKS again for such a fun summer of SF Bay!!
THANK YOU to everyone whom is helping is support “Restore The Delta”. It is extremely important that we do as much as we can to support these organizations that are fighting the battles for us. As I said Saturday morning on the California Sportsman radio show …ACT TODAY or WE WONT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO TOMORROW!! If you, your organization, or company would like to help us support “Restore the Delta” feel free to give me a call at 707-301-8050 or drop me an email. There are open dates for trips during this event, which will be running from September 20th through September 27th. What better way of spending a FUN day on the water…than by doing it with an end result of benefiting an organization that is fighting to help save the delta!! THANKS again to everyone whom will be working with us. We will be doing a second event in November as well, wit additional information coming out soon!!
Friday, the LUCKY STIKE did make its way back to Pittsburg. We were back out on the water Saturday with our first charter of the year!! We will back out Tuesday and Thursday, and then starting September 20th, we will be running 8 days straight. We are looking forward to another FUN year of sturgeon fishing, with a lot of new things being added for the anglers fishing aboard the LUCKY STRIKE!!
The sturgeon were basically right where we left them in June, with the largest and most concentrated marks coming from below the pump house at PG&E, and all of the way up to Sherman Island. The wind and tide in the morning really didn’t give us a warm welcome back, having us sitting basically sideways most of the morning. With the start of the incoming tide now working with the 15-20mph wind gusts, the water began to settle down around 11:30am, giving us a better chance to do some serious sturgeon chasing!! We found some sturgeon in the Little Cut, and decided to drop anchor and got some bait and scent in the water. It was not long till we started to get some TAPS on the bait, which resulted in a shaker sturgeon to the Lucky Strike. It wasn’t very big but it was good to have a sturgeon back on the Lucky Strike!!
Again, Michael, Rick, Tom, Win, Rex, and Steve made the most of the day, enjoying a spread of food that made the galley and cabin look more like a restaurant than it did a charter boat. THANKS guys for coming out with us!! With the fishing being slower than I expect, we still had a fun time out on the water….THANKS AGAIN!! OK..OK…I know…I sucked today in getting a lot of sturgeon to the boat....I will admit….the fishing was slower today….no excuses!!
With the tides Saturday, we focused on shallower waters (18ft to 35ft) during the main part of the tide, and then focused on the deeper waters (36ft to 70ft) during the start, end, and slack tide. The incoming tide was much more active than the outgoing tide!! Bait was roe. It still looks like that most of the sturgeon are holding in the upper part of Susuin Bay and ranging all the way up to Rio Vista. It seems to me there is still a high level of salinity, and as a result the sturgeon are moving up into the system searching for fresher water.
We are excited about having another FUN sturgeon season and are excited about many of the new things coming out this year and will be made available to the anglers fishing aboard the Lucky Strike. We are excited about this coming to the Lucky Strike soon, and are looking forward to the feedback coming in from you all whom have helped us with this….it should be a lot of FUN getting it into the water!! THANK YOU to you all whom have helped us with this!!
WOW…it is really good to be back out on the delta chasing sturgeon and stripers!!
Looking forward to seeing you all on the water!!
